When it comes to electrical work, special precautions must be taken in "wet rooms" like bathrooms and shower rooms to prevent any electrical elements from coming into contact with water.
A large number of electrical fittings, such as lighting, extractor fans, room heaters, shower units and pumps, must be installed in bathrooms.
However, the correct voltage and IP rating safety fittings are permitted, and no power sockets are allowed with in 3m of a bath or shower.
All electrical circuits in bathrooms must be protected by Residual Current Devices (RCD) with a maximum current of 30mA. Regulations limit the placement of electrical fittings to specific safety zones in the bathroom, and light switches must be either pull-cord type or located outside the bathroom.
