EICR Booking Terms

Version 3 • 1 November 2026. Applies to EICR inspection and reporting bookings.

Inspection and reporting terms

These terms apply to the EICR inspection and reporting service described in the written quotation and booking confirmation. Read them together before accepting the booking. Version 3 dated 1 November 2026.

1 The parties and agreement

The contractor is Rob Jones trading as Rob Jones Electrical, a sole trader. Telephone: 07779 292365. Email: [email protected]. Business postal address: Kenap Cottage, Farms Common, Wendron, Helston, Cornwall, TR13 0JQ.

The booking confirmation names the contracting customer and records whether an agent acts for a disclosed landlord or contracts in its own name. An agent arranging access is not automatically responsible for payment. The customer must have authority to instruct the service and arrange lawful access.

A booking is confirmed when the customer accepts the quotation and these terms and Rob Jones Electrical confirms the appointment in writing. The quotation records the premises, inspection scope, total price, access arrangements, report recipient and agreed report issue date. Any individually agreed variation must be recorded in writing. Statutory rights take priority.

2 The service and quotation

The service includes inspection and testing of the fixed electrical installation within the agreed scope, and a completed Electrical Installation Condition Report recording findings, observations, test results and the assessment for continued service. Work is carried out with reasonable care and skill using applicable electrical safety requirements and guidance. The report identifies the standard used.

Domestic EICRs start from £200 for straightforward single-phase installations with one consumer unit and up to 10 circuits. This is a starting price; a fixed quotation is confirmed before booking using the installation, location and access information. Larger or more complex installations are quoted individually. Commercial EICRs receive bespoke estimates, with any price basis or cost limit agreed before work starts.

An EICR is an assessment of an existing installation at the time of inspection. It is not an installation certificate, a guarantee against future faults or a promise of a satisfactory outcome. An older installation is not automatically unsafe simply because it differs from the latest requirements.

3 Payment

Payment is due within seven calendar days of the invoice date unless a different period has been expressly agreed in writing before booking. The invoice will show the amount, payment details and due date. Rob Jones Electrical is not VAT registered and does not add VAT; any change will be disclosed before a quotation is accepted.

The agreed inspection and reporting fee is payable for the service supplied regardless of whether the assessment is satisfactory or unsatisfactory and regardless of who carries out later repairs. Tell Rob promptly about any invoice query. No agency commission or undisclosed deduction is included or accepted by these terms.

4 Scope exclusions and additional work

The scope, extent of inspection and testing, any justified sampling, and known limitations are agreed and recorded. Limitations must not make the assessment misleading. Newly discovered restrictions or defects will be explained; the scope and quotation may need revision before continuing. No extra charge is added without agreement.

Remedial repairs, replacement parts, additional investigation beyond the agreed inspection scope, return visits, specialist system inspections and inspection of portable appliances are excluded unless expressly included in the quotation. Fire alarm, emergency lighting, hazardous-area, PV, battery and other specialist assessments are not included merely because equipment is present.

Further investigation or remedial work can be quoted separately. The customer is free to appoint another suitably competent contractor. Where the customer appoints another contractor directly, that contractor is responsible for their own work, the inspection and testing it requires, and the appropriate certification or written records.

The customer must obtain from the contractor carrying out the work an Electrical Installation Certificate, Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate or other appropriate written completion or investigation record, as applicable to the work. Records should identify the premises, work and tests completed, date, responsible contractor and relevant EICR observations, including any unresolved items or further work required. Where Building Regulations notification is required, the customer should also obtain the relevant compliance documentation through the applicable notification route. A payment receipt or verbal assurance alone is not sufficient evidence of completion.

Rob Jones Electrical does not certify, sign off or guarantee work carried out by a contractor appointed directly by the customer. The original EICR records the condition found on the inspection date and is retained as issued; it is not retrospectively changed to satisfactory because another contractor has carried out repairs. It should be kept with the subsequent certificates and completion records. A further EICR is not automatically required solely because remedial work has been completed.

Any request for Rob Jones Electrical to review another contractor’s documents, revisit, inspect or test subsequent work, or provide a further report must be separately agreed and scoped, with any charge confirmed beforehand. A document review is not certification of the other contractor’s work. Any statement issued by Rob Jones Electrical is limited to the checks actually undertaken and evidence available; a satisfactory outcome cannot be promised in advance. These provisions do not exclude responsibility for Rob Jones Electrical’s own work or affect statutory rights.

5 Access and interruptions

The customer arranges lawful access and a responsible contact, and ensures relevant rooms, boards and accessories can be reached safely. Tell Rob beforehand about medical equipment, sensitive electronics, business operations, critical supplies and any other restrictions or hazards. Suitable power interruptions and isolation arrangements must be agreed before testing.

Some supplies normally need to be isolated. The customer should arrange appropriate backups and operational precautions in advance. This does not remove the contractor’s duty to work with reasonable care and skill. If safe access, isolation or adequate scope cannot be achieved, work may be paused or rearranged and the reasons recorded.

6 Dangerous conditions

Immediate danger will be brought to the attention of the responsible person without delay. Where safe, lawful and within competence, action may be needed to remove immediate danger, including isolation of affected equipment. Findings, communications and action taken will be recorded. Any chargeable repair or work beyond the agreed scope requires separate agreement; safety findings will not be delayed while payment or repair work is discussed.

7 Reports and information

The completed report is issued electronically to the agreed recipient by the date in the booking confirmation. Any delay or newly identified need for investigation will be communicated promptly. Report issue is not conditional on payment of the invoice. The customer remains responsible for acting on findings and meeting any duties to provide reports to tenants, local authorities or other parties.

Information and site photographs are used as needed to quote, carry out and document the work, administer the booking and meet legal or professional obligations. Reports are shared only with agreed or otherwise lawfully entitled recipients. Identifiable property or occupant photographs will not be used for marketing without separate permission.

8 Changes missed access and cancellation

Please give as much notice as possible if an appointment needs changing, preferably at least 48 hours. This is a request for notice, not an automatic penalty or loss of cancellation rights. Rob Jones Electrical will also notify the customer promptly if the appointment must change.

Outside any applicable statutory cancellation right, a cancellation or failed-access charge will be considered only where a fair charging basis was disclosed and agreed before booking. Any amount must reflect reasonable evidenced loss, allow for costs saved and replacement work obtained, and not exceed the agreed service price. There is no automatic full inspection charge for a missed visit. Any service already supplied is accounted for separately.

If Rob Jones Electrical cannot carry out the service, any payment for work not supplied will be refunded. The customer’s statutory remedies for a service that is not supplied as agreed are unaffected.

9 Consumer cancellation notice

Where the Consumer Contracts Regulations apply to a distance or off-premises service contract, you have the right to cancel without giving a reason within 14 days after the day the contract is made. A routine EICR is not treated as an urgent-repair exemption simply because it is booked at short notice.

To cancel, tell Rob Jones, Rob Jones Electrical, at Kenap Cottage, Farms Common, Wendron, Helston, Cornwall, TR13 0JQ, 07779 292365 or [email protected] by a clear statement, such as an email or letter. You may use the cancellation form below, but do not have to. Sending the cancellation before the period expires meets the deadline.

If you cancel within that period before the service starts, payments received for the service will be refunded without undue delay and within 14 days after being informed of cancellation. Refunds use the same payment method unless you agree otherwise, without a refund fee.

If you expressly request work to start during the cancellation period, you may cancel before the service is fully performed but must pay a reasonable amount proportionate to the service supplied up to cancellation, compared with the full contract price, where the legal requirements for that payment have been met. Any balance due back to you will be refunded. You lose the cancellation right only after the whole service is performed, and only if you expressly requested the early start and acknowledged that consequence beforehand.

10 Complaints and statutory rights

Contact Rob using the details above with the job reference and concern. The concern will be investigated and a response provided within an agreed reasonable period. If unresolved, details of an appropriate alternative dispute resolution provider and whether Rob Jones Electrical is obliged or willing to use it will be provided where required. Nothing in these terms limits rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded, including consumer rights and liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
